learn how to make a mexican, doble vuelo folklorico skirt! 

mirandabella studio & tradiciones folklorico academy in gilroy, california, will be hosting a three day, weekend intensive sewing workshop~ 

the workshops will be on:

• friday, october 9th from 5-8pm
• saturday, october 10th from 10am-3pm (with a lunch break), and
• sunday, october 11th from 12pm-3pm.

located at: 

• 353 E 10th Street Unit N, Gilroy, California 95020 tradiciones folklorico academy performing arts dance studio 

sewing level:

• all levels are welcome! but the workshop will be tailored to a beginner, intermediate beginner skill level. 
• if you have a sewing machine but little experience, we will have a dedicated hour to learn, review, and practice the sewing basics on saturday morning. (if you are an advanced sewist, this hour can be skipped or used as additional working time.
• completion of the project will depend on your skill level, please note, you may need to spend additional hours outside of the workshops if you would like to complete the project by the end of the weekend. 

materials required:

• your own sewing machine, lightweight fabric of your choice, thread & any ribbons or lace for your skirt, pins

materials provided for use in the workshop:

• measuring, tracing, & cutting tools.

In this three day workshop, we will learn:

• the basic skirt anatomy & functionality 
• how to take measurements for the skirt 
• how to create your own pattern (how to calculate)
• how to cut the fabric 
• how to piece the skirt together
• how to secure the fabrics raw edges
• how to decorate the skirt with lace & ribbon 
• how to gather fabric 
• how to attach the olán to the circle skirt 
• how to make the waistband and 
• how to attach the waistband to the skirt 

in the hour dedicated to sewing 101, we will learn/review: 

• machine anatomy, 
• how to wind a bobbin,
• how to thread the machine
• and we will practice: straight, back & zigzag stitches
